Biography

Pythagoras was a legendary thinker who founded a religious-philosophical brotherhood in Croton (Southern Italy). His teaching combined mathematics, music, astronomy, and mysticism.

Pythagoreans believed that 'all is number' — numbers underlie the universe. They discovered the mathematical foundations of musical harmony.

Pythagoras is credited with proving the famous theorem, although it was known earlier. He also introduced the term 'philosophy' — love of wisdom.
